Something that is very famous about Turkey is their national food. When you are going to Alanya you have to try some of their specialties. You can find all types of food from kebab to pancakes to fruit. The turkish food is very popular with tourists and and often become that dish you want to eat again before you go home from your vacation.
Döner Kebab:
Propably the most famous turkish dish - it is a real kebab in a bread filled with paper-thin slices of meat, lettuce, onion and tomato. Perfect for you who loves kebab.
Ayran give the best coolness on a hot summerday. The drink is made of yoghurt, water and a pinch of salt which is mixed until it becomes fluffy.
When you are at the restaurant and have order your course, the waiter comes with a turkish bread together with some dips. It is like a starter before your dinner.
Chee Köfte:
Chee Köfte is a turkish specialty consisting of raw beef imixed with spices, herbs, onions and bulgur. It is different, but very good. Advised to eat along with water because of the spices.
Apple tea:
You can find apple tea anywhere in Alanya. When you are shopping, getting hamam or doing pedicure - the turks will offer you apple tea. If you like tea, apple tea is very tasty and good.
Gözleme is crispy, delicious pancakes cooked over an open fire on a large round plate. The pancakes are often filled with potatoes, spinach and cream cheese, but you can also choose to take it as a dessert and fill it with chocolate, jam or sugar instead.
The special Alanya banana is smaller, sweeter and more curved than regular bananas. Because of the bananas rapid maturation, it can not be transported long distances, meaning it can only be eaten in Turkey.
Enjoy your meal!

The cosiest and most comfortable thing to do on a hot summer day in Alanya is to go up to the river Dimcay which is about 30 min away from Alanya. There you can enjoy the cooler climate and fresh mountain water.
In the river there is a restaurant who is serving lunch and dinner, icecream and cool drinks. You are eating on a float with table and sofas. Over the float there is a small roof, so you get some shadow. The food was excellent and the staff was very pleasant.
After the lunch you can take the opportunity to take a swin in the river. You can jump from a trampoline or swing from a vine.

Dimcay is the perfect combination of fun, relaxing, swimming, eating and excursion!

Sapadere is a beautiful and breathtaking waterfall. The waterfall is located 50 kilometers from Alanya up in the mountain, which means it is a fullday-excursion. Best and easiest way to get there is to rent a car or join a company who make tours up in the mountain (a tour mostely make more stops on the way).
A walk through Sapadere is very relaxing and lovely. You hear the water rushing, the wind whizzing and the nature is wonderful.
As you get to Sapadere, it costs 10 turkish lira for entrance, meaning 5 euro or 40 swedish crowns.
It is a long way to get to Sapadere, but the visit will not let you down!

Do you like to cook?
Alanya has a novelty among the experinces  - a cooking course. At the top of the mountain with an unbeatable view, you can learn to cook a tradional turkish dish and taste some of the most delicious turkish wines. When you are finished with your courses you will all sit down together and eat, drink some wine and enjoy the view. The course is between 9-14 and the price is 65 euro per person. The price include:
Turkish Cooking Classes
Wine Tasting Course
Taste local specialties
Pickup  and dropoff (from and to your hotel)
This is an amazing day which is educational, fun and you meet a lot of wonderful teammates.

This experience is perfect for you who likes cooking, meeting new people and learn more about turkish food!

A good tips is to rent a car if you want to see more in Alanya and maybe outside the city as well. For 24 hours you can rent a car for 60 turkish lira, which represent 30 euro or 240 swedish crowns. The price do not include gasoline, but the gas is very cheap in Turkey (you may have to return the car with a full tank, depending on how much it was in the tank when you got the car). We rent our car at the company "Force Rental", but you can find rentals for cars and mopeds almost everywhere. You have to be 18 years old and have a drivinglicens to be able to rent a car.
Drive safely!

Dim Cave is an old, big and unique stalactite cave who is located 10 kilometres east of Alanya. It is the second largest stalactite cave in Turkey. Inside the cave you walk on footbridges and staircases while you are surrounded by fanciful rockformations. At the far end of the cave and 17 meters below the entrance lies a lake.
The cave is open every day between 9.00-17.30 and the price is 9.50 turkish lira per person, which represent 5 euro or 40 swedish crowns.

I recommend Dim Cave to you who want to see an incredible view and amazing attractions!

Every friday there is a big market on the bazaar called Friday Bazaar. Turks are selling fruit, vegetables and spices that they have grown themselves for a very low price. My sister bought 1 kilo of strawberries for 1 turkish lira, which is 50 cent or 4 swedish crowns. It is perfect to pass the market on the way to the beach and buy with you some fruit.
Friday Bazaar is located at the busstation, ask anyone you meet and they can tell you the way. It is really nice to have been to a bazaar market because it is such a mood with the local people and the tourists. You also experience a part of the turks reality.
It is a cozy feeling over markets!

If you like water, swimming and excitement, River Rafting is something for you. You go in a big rubberboat and you paddles together. During the ride it will be speed, waves and splashes.
River Rafting is a fullday-excursion who starts at 8 o´clock in the morning. The company will pick up all the guests at thier hotels and then drive you up to the mountains (the drive takes around 2 hours). The first moment to do is a safetyintroduction followed by fitting of helmet and lifejacket. You choose by your self if you want to wear swinsuits or clothes (shorts and a top) under your lifejacket, but the water is quite cold up in the mountains.
In the river you paddle a loop of 2-3 hours. In the rubberboat there is also a instructor during the whole time who gives you help and instructions. Sometimes when it high speed and a sharp turn, the boat could tip and you will fall into the water. It is not dangerous in any way, but you should not be afriad of water or anything like that.
You are 10 persons in one rubberboat. If you are more than 10 persons, it is 2, maybe 3 rubberboats and then it is more like a competition between the boatteams. This is really fun!
The price for a River Rafting - day is 48 turkish lira, which represent 24 and 192 swedish crowns. Lunch, the transer from and to the hotel and the rafting equipment is included in the price.

Quad Safari is an adventuare on a four-wheeler in the beautiful forest of Alanya. So if you like excitement, speed and nature, Quad Safari is something for you.
Quad Safari is divided into two tours a day, one in the morning (9-13) and one in the evening (14-18). You choose which one you want to go with by yourself. When you first arrive, there is a safety-introduction, followed by a short test-drive with the four-wheeler.You will have eyeglasses, a helmet and a scarf from the crew. Do not wear clothes that you are afraid of, because you can be quite dirty during the drive.

When you are going to a destination with a new language, it is good to have some basic knowledge about how to speak in the country you are visiting. The turkish language is very different from english and it is hard to understand, but a few words is easy to remember.
So why is it a benefit to know the language?
1. It is easier to communicate with the local people.
2. If you can talk the turkish language you will avoid the tourist-stamp, so the turks, for example, will not try to fool you on expensive prices when your shopping.
3. It is fun and good to know and learn a new language.
Here is some of the most common words and phrases you use during a vaccation:
Hello - Merhaba
Good morning - Günaydin
Good bye - Güle güle
How are you? - Nasilsin?
Good - Iyi
All right, okey - Tamam
Yes - Evet
No - Hayir
Thank you - Tesekürler
Can you help me? - Bana yardum edermisiniz?
Right - Saga
Left - Sol Taraf
How much? - Ne kadar?
I want a taxi - I bir taksi istiyorum
I´m staying at... - Ben kalıyorum...
Darling, honey - Askim
I love you - Seni Seviyorum
Seni Seviyorum
Try to remember some of this words, it will help you during your visit in Turkey!

If you want to have a relaxing and cozy night, you should go to the harbour. Along the quay you will find a long restaurant-chain and each restaurant has their own speciality. It is really wonderful to enjoy a dinner in the harbour because of the view and the feeling with the ocean. Our favorite was "Restaurant Marina" with seafood and fish as their speciality (but I ate delicious Pasta Alfredo). The restaurants has very tasty and yummie desserts, but if you want to eat ice cream I really recommend you to take your dessert at "Bamyacy Dondurma". It is an icecream bar with homemade flavours. The bar is located near the Red Tower, so why do you not sit down there and enjoy your icecream together with the view?
Except the view of the Red Tower, there is also an amazing view over the castle. It is really nice to take a evening walk along the harbour with all the lights and boats. For you who want to have some fun with activities there is for example minigolf to play and some bars for you who want to take a drink. In the middle of the harbour it is a small square with a little market of homemade turkish things and souveniers. The "Alanya 2012" frame is standing on the same square for you who want to take a typical tourist-picture in it (of course the year has changed to 2013 now).

A visit to the beautiful harbour is a must when you are in Alanya!

What do you think of turkish people? What have you heard? How do you think they are? Maybe that they are dangerous, they will take on you when you are dancing or that you will be afraid if you are walking in the night? (By the way, never walk alone, especially not in the night, no matter where you are)
Well, actually theese kind of thought it is not special for turkish people. It could happend in Greece as well as in Spain. The reason I am wrighting this is because I know that there excist reputation and prejudice about the turks being creepy and unpleasant. I also was a bit skeptical against turks before my first visit in Alanya, but after I thought that are the opposite to the reputations, meaning really amazing and wonderful.
Turks are very honest, protective and sweet (so are the greeks and the spaniards). Of course you will meet some gooey type or two, but where can you not find them? The people on the destination you are traveling to is a big part of your vaccation. You will meet them every day on the beach, markets and on restaurants. I thought that the turkish people were very nice, friendly and fun.

I met a lot of new friends during my visits in Alanya - both tourists and turks.

During a vaccation, it is a must to have a cool and refreshing ice cream. Alanya has a amazing ice cream bar in the harbour called "Bamyacy Dondurma" (located near Red Tower). The bar has actuallt been named one of the ten best ice cream bars in Turkey. "Bamyacy Dondurma" has served homemade ice cream since 1941 och today they offers 20 temping flavors in the menu.

If you love ice cream, you should go and try one at "Bamyacy Dondurma"!

Red Tower is a octagonal tower who is located in the harbour below the cassle. Kiz Kule, its turkish name, was build in the year of 1226. It was then as a guardtower that protected the city from pirates who ravaged the sea.
Today you can explore the tower in three different ways. Red tower is in present Alanya's Ethnographic Museum, which is a good alternative for you who are interested in the worlds different cultures and communities. You could also visit the 33 meters high tower because of the amazing and wonderful view. The entry costs 3 turkish lira, which represent 12 swedish crowns or 1,5 euro.
The third option is a restaurant who is connected with the tower. The restaurant is called "Red Tower Brewery Restaurant" and as you can hear on the name the tower is also a brewery for Alanyas local beer. If you like beer, you should visit the restaurant and try this unique, homemade beer.
It is worth a visit if you like museum, view or beer!

When you are at the beach, it could be fun to experience something more than just the sun and the sand. Kleopatra Beach has a wide range of wateractivities. They offer you bananaboat, paraglyding (single and dubble), swimmingring/couch after the boat, jetski and waterboard. The prices are between 10-50 euro for the activities.
I really recommend you to try paraglyding. It means that you go parachute behind a boat connected with a rope. Paraglyding gives you an amazing feeling to "fly" up in the air and you will have an incredible view over the city and the ocean.

Waterring after boat

You should try any of this if you can´t lay still on the beach for a whole day or if you just want to have some fun!
